The Pakistan Army says it is also investigating former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt. Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed for his role in the violent incidents “with the consent and connivance of deplorable political elements.”
The Pakistani military’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement issued on Tuesday mentioned the violent incidents linked to May 9. It should be remembered that on that day, after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, protesters vandalized several government buildings, including military installations, across the country. The Pakistani army has further stated that a separate investigation is being conducted regarding the involvement of Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed in the violent incidents related to chaos and unrest in the country during the Field General Court Martial process. Several incidents of violence and unrest are also being investigated, including those related to May 9. According to the ISPR, Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed has also been charged during the Field General Court Martial process. According to the Pakistani army's public relations department, a field general court martial was initiated against former ISI chief Faiz Hameed on August 12 this year and a charge sheet has now been formally filed against him on charges of participating in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act, and misusing authority and government resources. During the field general court martial process, the former ISI chief is being provided with all legal rights as per the law.
